We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved bassist, Winston Vinh.
Winston played with The Phats for many years and was the heartbeat of the band. During the last 20 years he became one of the most respected figures in Kingston's music scene, not through fanfare, but through the consistency of his presence and the quality of his playing. Whether locking in with the rhythm section or laying down a rich foundation beneath soaring horn lines, his playing was both precise and soulful.
Winston lived his life as a shining example to all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He was admired for his quiet humility, sharp wit, and generous spirit. Regardless of circumstances, Winston never complained or spoke negatively. He brought a positive spirit to all gatherings of others, spreading sunshine everywhere he went.
His presence will be deeply missed by fellow musicians, audiences, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Winston’s music, however, lives on in everyone he performed with.
We wish our deepest condolences to Winston's family and friends in their time of grief.
